This page explains how the Water Damage Answers Editorial Team writes and maintains every article on this site.

Answer first

Each article starts with a short direct answer to the question in its title. Every section opens with a one or two sentence answer, then the detail.

Real numbers from named sources

When we give a number, such as a humidity level, a drying time or a cost range, we name where it comes from in the same sentence. We prefer government agencies, standards bodies, universities, insurance industry groups and manufacturer manuals. Each article lists its sources at the bottom.

Safety comes first

If a situation involves electricity, gas, sewage or a sagging ceiling, we say so plainly and near the top.

Independence and the phone number

This site earns money when readers call the number shown on our pages. That does not change what we write. We tell you when a problem is something you can safely handle yourself, and we never claim to be a local company. See our Call Disclosure.

Updates and corrections

We review articles when sources change or readers point out a problem. The Updated date on an article changes only when we make a real content change. To report an error, use our Contact page.

Images and videos

We use openly licensed photos and credit each one under the image. When we embed a video, it is made by someone else and we name the channel. The video only loads after you click play.
